Commercial shackles are not to be used for lifting purposes.
Should extreme circumstances or shockloading be applicable, this must be taken into account on
selecting the product to be used.
The Working Load Limit (WLL) should be applied in a straight pull and overloads must not be made.
Side-loading should be avoided as the products are not designed for this purpose. If side-loading is unavoidable refer to the following:
0° In-Line load 100% of Rated Working Load Limit.
45° from In-Line 70% of Rated Working Load Limit.
90° from In-Line 50% of Rated Working Load Limit.
It is required that the shackles be regularly inspected and that such inspection should take place as a minimum in accordance with the standards given in the country and all relevant requirements of the Rigging Code of Practice. This is neccessary, because the products in use may be affected by wear, misuse or overloading with resulting deformation and alteration of steel structure.
